Help / Help: Roles and permissions
Roles and permissions
Give members their offices and standings, and choose what each role can do.
Read the club’s roles
Board onlyHolding an office makes someone an officer and gives them the office’s permissions, on top of what their standing allows. Only officers whose role can manage roles and permissions can change roles. In a new club, these are the President and the Vice President.
The President office is the club’s admin. It heads the list, can’t be removed, always has someone in it, and always keeps permission to manage roles and to delete the club.
- Open Manage from the menu and press Roles.
- Pick a role in the list: an office, a committee, or Member · Sitter · Raiser for the standings.
- Press See every permission, or Edit permissions if you can change the role, to read what it can do.
Give someone an office
Officers who can manage roles and permissionsA person can hold more than one office. The President office can never be left empty. For a committee, the people who hold the office that runs it can also add and remove its members.
- Pick the office in the list.
- Under Who has this role, choose the member in Add a person.
- Press Add.
- To take someone off, press the cross beside their name and confirm Remove.
Change what a role can do
Officers who can manage roles and permissionsTicking Take sitting shifts also ticks Open the shifts pages, and ticking Hear when a shift needs a sitter also ticks Assign sitters by hand. Manage roles and permissions cannot be given to another role. Only someone who can delete the club can give Delete the club to an office or take it away, and the President always keeps it.
Hear when a shift needs a sitter sends the reminder for a shift filled by hand that still has no sitter. In a new club only the Puppy sitter coordinator has it. If nobody has it, everyone who can assign sitters by hand gets the reminder.
Permissions are sorted under Admin, Members, Shifts, Dogs and raisers, Events and news, and Money. One you can’t change for this role is greyed out with a padlock, and the reason is listed under the permissions.
A person has everything their standing allows plus everything their offices allow. When someone in an office is a Raiser or a Sitter, each permission they already have that way is marked with their first name, like “Sam has this”. They keep those even if they’re unticked on the office.
What the Member, Sitter and Raiser standings can do is fixed. A committee can never have a permission its office does not have.
- Pick the role in the list.
- Press Edit permissions.
- Tick what people with the role can do, and untick what they cannot. The question mark beside each permission says what it allows.
- Press the Save button under the list.
Create an office or a committee
Officers who can manage roles and permissionsA committee belongs to an office. It can never have a permission its office does not have, and being on it does not make anyone an officer. The people who hold that office can change the committee.
Everyone in the club can see the committee and who is on it on the About page, under the card of each officer who holds its office.
Start from copies the permissions a role has in a new club, not its name, its description or its people. Manage roles and permissions and Delete the club are never copied.
- Press New role.
- Under Kind, pick An office, held by officers, or A committee of an office.
- Type the Name and, if you like, a description.
- For an office, pick a role under Start from to begin with its permissions, or leave No permissions yet.
- For a committee, choose The office that runs it.
- Press Create role, then give the role its permissions and its people.
Rename or remove a role
Officers who can manage roles and permissionsA role can be removed only when nobody holds it, and an office only when it runs no committees. The Member, Sitter and Raiser standings cannot be removed.
- Press the role’s name or description to change it.
- To remove the role, press Remove role and confirm.
Change someone’s standing
Officers who can administer everyone in the club, or move people between Member and SitterEvery member has exactly one standing, so adding a person to one moves them out of the one they had. A Raiser can take shifts and care for their own dog. A Sitter can take shifts. A Member gets no extra abilities.
Administer everyone in the club moves anyone to any standing. Move people between Member and Sitter does only that: it can’t move a Raiser or anyone who holds an office. In a new club the Puppy sitter coordinator has it.
- Pick Member · Sitter · Raiser at the bottom of the list.
- Open Raiser, Sitter or Member.
- Choose the person in Add a person and press Add.
See the club as a role sees it
Board onlyThe View as button appears only on roles whose permissions you already have, and on an office only if you hold one. Hear when a shift needs a sitter does not count, since it only sends a reminder. Committees have no View as.
You stay signed in as yourself, and you can do only what the role allows. Anything you change while viewing is really changed.
- Pick a role in the list, or pick Member · Sitter · Raiser for a standing.
- Press View as. For Sitter, when the young-dog rule is on, press View as not yet certified, or View as certified if you hold the certification.
- Use the app. The banner at the top shows whose view you are in.
- Press Exit preview in the banner to go back to your own view.
